The desired properties that pultrusion profiles combine and make them replace a lot of conventional materials such as metal, wood, aluminium etc. are the following (indicational values are given, along the profil) :

1. High Mechanical Strength

  • Tensile strength                                               700 - 800 MPa
  • Modulus of elasticity in tension                      35 - 40 GPa
  • Flexural strength                                 700 - 800 MPa
  • Modulus of elasticity in flexion                      35 - 45 GPa
  • Elongation before break                                  2 %
  • Compression strength                         350 - 450 MPa
  • Modulus of elasticity in compression             25 - 30 GPa
  • Impact strength (Izod)                                    2000 J/m
  • Hardness Barcol                                              45 - 50

2. Low specific weight

  • Density                                                           1.8-2.0 kg/dm3
Pultrusion products’ relatively low specific weight combined with their good mechanical strength result in specific strength values greater than those of steel.

3. Resistance to chemical and thermal infection and to corrosion

  • Temperature range of usage                -100 oC to +150 oC
  • Humidity absorption                           0.15 %

4. Electric and heat insulation

  • Thermal conductivity                          0.2 - 0.4 W/mK
  • Coefficient of thermal expansion                   12(E-6) (1/K)
  • Electrical resistivity                             1(E-10) - 1(E-15) Ohm/cm
